What does Plaxo for Mac do?    Print   Email   Bookmark   Download

Plaxo for Macintosh is an application that synchronizes your Macintosh Address Book and iCal.  You can install this application on multiple Macintosh computers and it will sync your data in every installed location.
In order to download and install Plaxo for Macintosh, you must already be an existing Plaxo member. Here's how you get started:

  1. Access your Plaxo Online account.
  2. Click the Address Book tab to allow access to your Sync Dashboard. In the Sync Dashboard (bottom area of the browser), click the link "Add sync points" to see the Sync Wizard window.
  3. In a lightbox window, select "Mac OS X" and click "Next".
  4. Click the "Download" button to begin installing.
  5. Save the Plaxomac.zip file in a location that's easy to find. In a few seconds, run/open the downloaded file to begin the installation sequence.
  6. In the Plaxo for Mac package window, double-click the package "Install Plaxo for Mac.mpkg".
  7. Follow the Installer instructions until you reach the "Finish Up" step.  You can close the Installer at this point.
  8. A new window will appear to begin your Plaxo setup,  Click "Setup Plaxo" to continue.
  9. Identify your new syncpoint and enter your login information.
    1. Give this sync point a name. Because you can install Plaxo on many computers, you want to identify each one.
    2. Enter your email or AOL ID - this should already be filled-in for you.
    3. Enter your Plaxo password and click Next.
  10. Plaxo will begin checking your account - once verified, you will need to configure how your Macintosh will sync with Plaxo.
    1. The default Plaxo setup synchronizes your Mac Address Book and iCal to your Plaxo Online account.
    2. If you click Advanced Setup, you can include additional folders to your sync map (learn more).
    3. Click "Start Sync" to begin syncing.
  11. The synchronization process will begin.  This first time sync may take a while depending on the size of your address book (e.g. 500 entries take about 3 minutes).
  12. That's it. Click "Next" to complete the first-time setup wizard.

** At the end of the install, the Plaxo prefefences window will appear  You can close it for now but is always available by clicking the Plaxo icon in the Apple menubar.  Plaxo will open a browser taking you back to your Plaxo Online account to setup another sync point.

At the completion of your installation, Plaxo for Macintosh will open your default browser to show you how many people in your address book are also Plaxo members.  Being Plaxo members, their updated information will automatically update your address book.  You will also be able to send invitations to your friends and business colleagues to join Plaxo and grow your network.

What Next?
Depending on the size of your address book and calendar, data should completely sync between Plaxo and your email client within a few minutes (e.g. 500 entries take about 3 minutes).

Can I synchronize more than one Macintosh to my Plaxo account?
Yes. To sync another computer, simply follow the same steps above but on a different Macintosh computer. Note that you should uniquely name the new endpoint so that you can tell your Macintosh computer endpoints apart.

Managing the Macintosh endpoint
You can always look at your sync settings by clicking the Macintosh sync point icon from the Sync Dashboard and clicking the Manage link. This opens the "Macintosh – Manage Sync Point" window which shows your current sync settings.

If you no longer wish to synchronize the data between Plaxo and your Macintosh, you can delete the link by clicking the "Delete this Sync Point" link. Note that deleting a sync point does not delete the data in Plaxo or in your Macintosh.

Address Book Synchronization Limits
There are limits to the record types you keep online. Please click here to learn more.
