What is the Plaxo Directory?
The Plaxo Directory is a searchable, opt-in directory of Plaxo members. The directory links to members' public profile pages.
Where is the directory? How can I access it?
The directory is accessible at directory.plaxo.com. Because it is on the public Internet, the directory will over time be crawled and indexed by various search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. Members' public profile pages will show up in searches on these search engines.
I'm a Plaxo member. Am I in the directory?
To protect your privacy, the directory is completely opt-in. Only Plaxo members who have explicitly chosen to opt-in to people search are searchable in the directory. The directory will display only what is listed on your public profile page. You have control over what displays on your public profile page (see below).
What shows on my public profile page? Can I change it?
By default, only your name and photo displays on your public profile page. You can control what displays by changing the privacy settings when you edit each section of your profile; setting the “Share with” option to “Everyone” will make that information visible on your public profile.
If I create a public profile, will anyone be able to find my e-mail address or phone number and contact me?
By default, only your name and photo will appear in your profile. If someone wants to contact you, they will have to request to connect with you. Plaxo will forward the request to you, but will not share any of your contact information with the requester. You can choose to accept or reject any connection requests.
Of course, you can choose to put more in your public profile, such as your work history, your school, your blog, etc. Some business people may choose to put the contact information for their business in their public profile. This is entirely up to you.
My public profile URL is hard to remember. Can I have a better URL?
Yes! You can select your own profile URL for easier sharing, in the format of http://yourname.myplaxo.com.
Go to My Profile
In the “See what you’re sharing” section, select “Public”
If you haven’t yet set up your profile URL, type in your selected nickname and click “Done.” If you already have a profile URL, click “change” to select a different nickname.
How can I remove myself from the directory?
You can go to your Pulse settings and turn off People Search. It takes a while for search engines to update their indexes; however, if you turn off People Search people will no longer be able to access your public profile page, effective immediately.
